The Monterey Symphony's March performance weekend is packed with a star violinist and a new work the Symphony co-commissioned as part of its eighth anniversary celebration. The program opens with the new composition "Moño," by Marina López, born and raised in Mexico City, now Pittsburgh-based. Stefan Jackiw, one of the country's foremost violinists who is playing with the Monterey Symphony for the first time, will perform Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. The program also features Sibelius' Seventh Symphony, which Music Director and Conductor Jayce Ogren calls the composer's "greatest tribute to nature, humanism and spirituality." The weekend also features the annual Women's Night Out event on Saturday, this year with a White Lotus theme. It's sold out but if you see women draped in pink scarves like Jennifer Coolidge or exotic kaftans like Parker Posey, you'll know why. [PM]
