Clarinet | Sarah Bonomo, Principal

Julia Sarah Bonomo (purposefully initialed after J.S. Bach) was destined for a musical life from the beginning. Sarah has always been driven toward musician-hood, transferring from taking naps under her mother's piano as a child to taking up the clarinet as an adolescent. Currently Ms. Bonomo is an active freelance clarinetist in the San Francisco Bay Area and the founder of an unconducted chamber orchestra named One Found Sound. Sarah's clarineting has taken her across the United States and Europe, including New York, Italy, and Denmark. As a founding member of the award winning woodwind quintet Terpsichore Winds, Sarah gave her Carnegie Hall debut May 2, 2011.

An avid orchestral and chamber musician, Sarah is the principal clarinetist of the Monterey Symphony and has held chairs in the Tallahassee Symphony, the Merced Symphony, and various regional orchestras in and around Tallahassee, Florida and the Bay Area. She has performed in the Benvenue House Concert series alongside Jerome Simas of the San Francisco Symphony, and received fellowships from the Imani Winds Chamber Music Institute and Bowdoin International Music Festival. In the spring of 2012 she organized a performance of Stravinsky's "The Soldier's Tale" collaborating with LINES Ballet and Alasdair Neale, music director of the Marin Symphony. She has worked with such artists as Yefim Bronfman, Lewis Kaplan, Kurt Muroki, Anthony McGill, Mark Nuccio, and Liang Wang, as well as played under the batons of Alasdair Neale, Nicola Luisotti, Ming Luke, and Sir Neville Mariner.

Sarah graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University in 2009 with two separate Bachelor's degrees; a Bachelor's of Science in Economics and a Bachelor's of Music in Clarinet Performance studying under Drs. Frank Kowalsky and Deborah Bish. She completed her Master's studies in 2012 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under Luis Baez of the San Francisco Symphony. She holds a minor in Spanish Language studies and is an avid connoisseur of foreign film and cooking.
