Jayce Ogren (2022-present)
The Monterey County Symphony Association announced the appointment of Jayce Ogren as their 12th Music Director on June 1, 2022. The Symphony launched its search in January of 2019 and delayed the audition process twice due to the Pandemic. Ogren conducted the May 2022 concerts for the Symphony which featured works by Debussy, Schumann, Lutoslawski (featuring pianist Philippe Bianconi), and Rachmaninoff. A nine-member Search committee comprised of five members of the Association of management and four musicians made the decision following the May concert. Jayce's inaugural season OVERTURE will launched in November of 2022 with world-class and transformative concerts.
In 2023, under the baton of Ogren the Symphony screened a new mini documentary Composing Big Sur by Douglas Mueller and performed the world-premiere of Sacred Land: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by John Wineglass. In partnership with the Big Sur Land Trust and the Esselen Tribe of Monterey County, the film follows the creative process of Composer John Wineglass and violinist Edwin Huizinga.
