Board and Administration

Bruce Lindsey was born in Chicago and is a graduate of Chicago Public Schools, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.  Between college and law school he served as an Infantry training officer and Company Commander at Ft. Ord, thereafter remaining active in the Army Reserve, and is a retired US Army Colonel.

Chicago musical influences were plentiful.  Morgan Park High School had three levels of bands, a string orchestra, a dance band, several choruses, and the Concert Band competed yearly at the highest level of the city-wide Chicago Public High School Band Competition.  Bruce played baritone horn in the Concert Band, was the leader and trombone in the dance band and played in his band teacher's Italian community band during the summers.  During that time he was fortunate to be able to attend the Chicago Symphony often, conducted by Fritz Reiner and by guest conductors such as Leopold Stokowski.  At the same time he was sure to catch Jazz at the Philharmonic and Count Basie most every time they came to Chicago.  Since then he has attended performances by every major American symphony orchestra and many abroad, including the London Symphony, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Marinsky Theatre Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and Igor Stravinsky conducting the San Francisco Symphony.  Bruce also was a piper in the former First Salinas Valley Highlanders Bagpipe band.

Bruce began his legal career as a Monterey County Deputy District Attorney and later transitioned in Salinas to commercial and bankruptcy/reorganization law.  Outside of law practice he has been a member of Salinas Jaycees, Rotary, California Rodeo, Monterey County Youth Science Center, and a 16-year elected member of the Washington Union School District Board of Trustees.  He and his wife have been Monterey Symphony subscribers for over 50 years, and Bruce has served on the Symphony Board of Directors in 1973-74 and again from 2007 to the present, during which time he has served on the governance, finance and music committees, plus the ad hoc Music Director Search Committee, as well as having served as both Vice-President and President/Chairman of the Symphony Board.
