Performances in Carmel Only - Not Included in Mini-Series Subscriptions*

A piano can be an orchestra itself in the hands of a master, so like a seventh inning stretch, we give the orchestra a break while the piano plays on. In all its magnificence, the Symphony’s Hamburg Steinway sits center stage and alone in this feature performance with Spanish pianist Josu de Solaun. One of classical music’s fast rising stars, de Solaun wowed audiences with his Monterey Symphony debut (Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3) in January 2011. He returns with a program of varied and challenging works for solo piano, three by Robert Schumann and the original piano version of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Don’t miss this opportunity of a lifetime, to hear de Solaun’s interpretation of this challenging piano masterpiece as well as Ravel’s magnificent orchestration during our May program.
