Adele Akiko Kearns
Assistant Principal Cello


Cellist Adelle-Akiko Kearns was born in San Francisco and began studying the cello at the age of eleven in the preparatory division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She continued her musical education in the Conservatory’s collegiate division, earning a bachelor’s degree in cello performance and a master’s degree in chamber music, both with honors. Adelle pursued a graduate diploma from the Juilliard School where she is currently studying with Joel Kosnic and Bonnie Hampton. She has participated in master classes with Mstislav Rostropovich, Raphael Wallfisch , the Tokyo String Quartet, Bernard Greenhouse and other eminent musicians. Adelle has appeared as a soloist with the Tokyo Philharmonic, West Valley Symphony, and other groups. She has an avid interest in new music and has performed in Suntory Hall Music 21 Festival, New Music Works, Blue Print Festival, and the others. From 2005-07, Adelle was assistant principal of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She has been assistant principal cellist with the Monterey Symphony since 2003. This fall, Adelle is scheduled to make her New York Recital debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
