Youth Programs

MUSIC IN THE SCHOOLS

Did you know that every year the Monterey Symphony engages fourth and fifth grade Monterey County students in our renowned Music in the Schools program? Musicians from the Symphony conduct In-School Demonstrations of the instrument families. We also host School Youth Concerts which were presented to nearly 6,000 students last year alone. For many children who participate in our programs, this is their first experience learning about and hearing symphonic music LIVE! Our programs receive a tremendous amount of positive feedback from both teachers and students. To quote a teacher whose class attended a Youth Concert last year:

Please let the musicians and the conductor know they’re truly making a difference in these youngsters’ lives. Many of the students have never been introduced to the symphony; this musical experience stays with them and that’s so important.” ~Los Padres School

To students and teachers, the concerts and demonstrations are priceless; however, they do not come without a cost.

This year, our goal is to have the Music in the Schools program completely supported and have a sponsor for each and every one of the 6,000 children who will attend the Youth Concerts. Your gift will make a lasting impact on these children. The Monterey Symphony relies solely on individual, foundation and corporate support to provide students with In-School Demonstrations and Youth Concerts.

Our Youth Concerts in the spring will be a presentation of “Peter and the Wolf,” conducted by Daniel Wachs, Music Director at Chapman University. The entire Music in the Schools program carries a price tag of approximately $60,000, or $10 per child attending the concert. Please give careful consideration to your gift and sponsor as many children as possible. Last year’s “The Case of the Missing Pipe(?)” Youth Concert was met with rave reviews as evidenced by the hundreds of letters received from the schools. Please take a moment to show your support of our programs.
