INTERESTED IN EXTENDING YOUR FIELD TRIP?
Did you know that the Monterey Symphony engages thousands of local
students each year in our renowned Music for the Schools program? Our FREE Monday Youth Concerts were presented to over 6,500 students from 50 schools, with 30 accompanying In-School Presentations, in 2015-2016 alone. For many children who participate in our programs, this is their first experience learning about and hearing symphonic music LIVE! Feedback provided by the schools that attended shows that 97% of the students who participated want to attend future symphony performances. Our programs receive a tremendous amount of positive feedback from both teachers and students. To quote a teacher whose class attended a Youth Concert last year:
“…First, I would like to thank the sponsors for their generosity in making this experience possible. This was definitely a new and unique experience for our students from King City. I would also like to thank everyone from the greeters, to volunteers, to the musicians. Every one was wonderful, positive and very professional. Whether it was the glamour of the theater, the “fancy” attire, or the beautiful music, this experience will stay in the minds of my 5th graders forever….”
~5th Grade Teacher, Santa Lucia Elementary, King City
For students and teachers, these concerts and demonstrations are priceless; however, they do not come without a cost.
The entire Music for the Schools program carries a price tag of approximately $150,000 per school year. Last year’s Youth Concerts were met with rave reviews as evidenced by hundreds of letters received from the schools. This year we will reach over 7,000 local students in our Music for the Schools program. The Monterey Symphony relies on individual, foundation and corporate support to provide students with meaningful music education experiences. Your gift will make a lasting impact on these children.
“Dear Monterey Symphony…I loved your orchestra. Your auditorium was comfortable, you have a very brilliant conductor and orchestra. You provided me with the opportunity to get the courage to go home and practice one of your songs and perform it all on my bass guitar. I appreciated it so much. I think that Mozart and Beethoven would be happy.”

“Dear Monterey Symphony… Thank you for letting us experience the Symphony. That was my first symphony and it sounded perfect. My favorite song that you guys played was the Star Spangled Banner. Once again thank you.”
~4th grade student from Marshall Elementary / Attended April 2016 Youth Concert
“Dear Monterey Symphony members, I want to inform you that I absolutely loved the concert. I loved the way it sounded especially the flute and clarinet. It was awesome! I hope I can go again next year. This concert has inspired me to become a musician. I want to play the flute when I grow up. This is the first concert I have ever gone to. Thank you that we didn’t even have to pay. What inspired you to become a musician?”
